Problem adding IDE hard drive and PCI host controller.

Question

I'm trying to install my old Seagate 160MB drive as a 2nd drive on my new Dimension 9200 using a Sabrent PCI controller card ( Silicon Image Ultra ATA 100/133 IDE RAID PCI Host Controller Card ) After installing the controller card, Win XP doesn't detect the new hardware upon boot. I've tried installing it manually but continue to get 'error 10' in device manager.Ihave uninstalled and reinstalled it several times but can't get it to function. Any help would be appreciated.

Do not attach the hard drive untill XP recognizes the card, and installs it properly. Try moving the card to a different pci slot. Try getting the latest driver from the manufacturers website.   If you get no results, try a different brand of controller card.

In addition to Mombodog's good advice, check the strapping on the drive; many PCI drive controllers need to have the drive strapped for Master if it is the primary drive on the controller, and slave if it is the secondary.
