Problem burning cd's software or hardware?
I've got a 3 month old Dimension 2400, 2.6 gz celeron, 512 ram with HL DT ST GCC 4481B RW/DVD drive. My problem is I can't get a cd to burn. I've tried both Sonic and windows media player, but niether will work. On one occasion I got an error message saying problem with disc (maybe smudged ect), so I tied with a different disc (have tried CDR and CDRW). On this occassion all seemed to proceed Ok, and came up with the disc completed successfully message, but when I tried to play it, the PC thinks it is a balnk disc. The music I'm trying to copy are mp3 files, and I've tried as both audio and data files, both with the same result.
Can I find out if it is a software or hardware issue? Help please.
P.S. I'm still a bit of a novice.

First, MP3 files are burned as a "data" disc, not an "audio" disc. If you want an audio disc that will play on any audio CD player, you need wav files.
If you are attempting to burn legitimate downloaded MP3 files (songs that you have purchased from some download music service, such as iTunes) in most cases you must use the download service's media player/CD burning function to make an MP3 CD, if the Digital Rights for the downloaded music allow you to do that.
If this is MP3's from a KaZaa type download, we can't help you as Dell forum rules prohibit discussing illegal copying.
If you can make a "data" CD-R, using a Blank, unformatted CD-R, then you should be able to make an MP3 CD-R using a blank unformatted CD-R.
