If I do absolutely nothing at all, have no other programs running, and wait a little bit before clicking OK after inserting the next CD, sometimes it will work. I got to 99% install with Doom 3 and it froze, after trying for the third time. Managed to get World of Warcraft installed this way.
Additionally, I have had issues with Steam and downloading Half-Life 2. I get to the loading screen after the initial credits (Before I can start a new game even), and it freezes my computer.
I'm not sure if these issues are related to the CD/DVD or the hard drive... anyone know?
VERY frustrating. Updating drivers for the DVD drive didn't work either.
Another guy told me to go to Special Interest - Games and I found this. It might also have to do with an Anti Virus program running while you install.
YEAH....after two weekends of frustration I have a fix if you are stuck during installation. In my case disc one would install fine, disc2 would get hung up and the Dimension 4700 fan would be in overdrive. Manual Install is one solution but not as good (or easy).
The Fix:
Go to "start"
select "run"
type in "msconfig"
hit "ok"
choose "startup" tab and disable all.
choose "services" tab and disable all.
restart computer
Load Doom3 disc one.
When prompted for disc2 hold down left shift key when inserting disc2 (I held it down the entire time)
Same when prompted to load disc3
After game installs restart (you are prompted to restart anyway in Doom software)
Sounds like it's time to completely uninstall the McAfee software that came with it. Already had to pull off half the program (Privacy checker in particular), as it would take my computer up to 5 min. to boot up fully.
Also it seems that Sonic`s DLA program has caused some conflicts wit Game installation as well, disabling it has helped in the past.
Best Regards
