Did you try both on CABLE SELECT?  Some HARD drives just wont work hooked up to certain ROM drives. I had that issue with our GX280's.  I tried a different brand HDD and it worked.  It is POSSIBLE that a bios update COULD help it. Slim but may be worth a shot.
