Problem with CD/DVD drive
My PC is a Dell XPS/Dimension 700 and the CD/DVD drive is a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H553A.
The problem is that the pc does not recognize any cd or dvd. When you right-click on "Open" you see an empty screen, when you click on "Properties"than it is as if there is a full disk, but there is nothing.
I am not a computer expert and have no idea what causes the problem.
Can anybody help out?

Insert a bootable disc such as your Windows DVD. See if the system will boot from it (F12 at powerup). If it won't, the drive is toast - replace it.
If it will, it could be Windows issue - will the drive work in safe mode (F8 at powerup)?

I tried both , but it did not work. I also tried the Dell diagnostics software and got the following: Error code 4E0F:2870. Optical drive BIST--OPU test failed. Make sure there is no media in the drive. Have no idea what it means, but assume that I have to replace the CD/DVD drive.
