Problem with Hard Drive
I have Dell Dimension E510 with 160G hard drive. Recently the hard drive is reading/writing al the time, even when I am not doing any thing on the computer. That is I can hear the drive working and I can see the drive light comming on all the time.
Ca anyone tell me what the problem might be and what is teh solution?
Thanks
Ranjit

All Dell systems ship with a hidden partition on the hard drive that contains the Dell Diagnostic Utility. It can be accessed by performing the following steps:
The 32-bit Dell Diagnostics start to run
Note: If your hard drive has been replaced or if it has been formatted and you no longer have the utility partition installed, locate the diagnostic media that shipped with your computer. You must have the proper diagnostics media for your specific system type. Depending on the ship date, system model, and configuration, the diagnostics will have shipped with the system on a 3.5-inch disk, a Dell Resource CD, or System Software CD.
If the system did not ship with a diagnostics disk or the original diagnostics are not available, download the diagnostics by performing the following steps:
Note: Click the appropriate Edit button and select the operating system and language you want using the drop-down menu if the default values are not correct.
Note: You may have to specify an installation method or a specific operating system type
Note: When the message appears asking to overwrite the folder, click the Yes to All button.
In case there is any error message in the Hard drive test, do remeber to Note it. As it might Indicate the cause of the issue.

You could try turning off hard drive indexing and see if that makes a difference
Open My Computer.
Right-click your hard drive icon and select Properties.
At the bottom of the window you'll see "Allow indexing service to index this disk for faster searches," uncheck this and click ok.
A new window should pop up and select Apply to all folders and subfolders.

Please don't send me questions about your system by DCF Messenger.
Post the issue in the appropriate Board, where they will be answered.
