Problems formatting CD-RW's

Dimension 2400 with a NEC NR-7800A Drive.   Right click on the D: Drive in My Computer.  The option of formatting is not available.  Try to format through Sonic Digital Media LE and receive a "Waiting for Device" message with no resolution to the wait.  Exit the program and receive an Error message stating memory could not be written.  OK that message and receive a second error message stating unknown software exception 0x0000409 at location 0x131bc64d.

I tried to remove and reboot the D: drive to see if that would be a magic bullet.  No Luck.

A little help??

Hi, RC Pilot:

You do not need to format CD-RW discs. Are you talking about erasing a disc?

If you disable Drag-to-disc, you should be able to use the Windows CD burning wizard to copy these files to your CD-RW disc. You must make sure the CD recording function is enabled in drive properties. Then, open Windows Explorer, select the file(s) you want to write to the disc, right click the selected files, hover over Send to, then select CD-RW (or DVD-RW) drive. Windows will copy the files to a temporary location and a little bubble will pop up telling you there are files waiting to be written to the CD. Click that and a box will pop up showing files on the disc and files waiting to be written to the disc. Click File, Write these files to CD.

Hello Osprey4:

No, I'm talking about the request I receive to format the disk from the Sonic software.  I'm attempting to Direct-to-Disc some JPEG files that I have.  When I follow the Direct-to-Disc prompts I get a message indicating that the CD is not formatted.  In the past I would format and was good to go.  Now I'm getting the "waiting" message and the previously mentioned error messages.   I'm confused and looking for a Eureka moment on this one.
