Look in the Device Manager.

Start | Control Panel | System in classic view | Hardware tab | Device Manager

Click on the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.  Right-click the drive and select
Properties.  Is there an error code present?

nobodys replied at mine so ill give mine a shot here. Im also having the same problem, except i can read a select amount of DVD's. I have an inspiron 9300 with a nd6650 drive. It clicks when you insert the disk, and hear the drive spin and fail. shows that it works fine in the device manager, and have uninstalled reinstallled, everything i could think of. any ideas?

Try running the Dell Diagnostics for the drive.  It will be on you hard drive (hidden partition) or available under Drivers and Downloads on this Forum.

Hmmm... can you explain me exactly how to run the Dell Diagnostics for the drive? I don't really understand how it works.

Usually when you start your system and press F12 when the blue Dell
is on the screen will take you to the boot menu.  From there you can
select Utility Partition.  This will take you to the Diagnostics.
It is extensive and in there you will find the tests for the CD drive.

If you do not have that partition on your system, you can obtain it
under Drivers and Downloads at the lower-left of this page.  Enter your
system information and it will take you to all your possible drivers
and downloads, including the Utility Diagnostics.

When I complete the Dell Diagnostics, the program gives an error when he controls the cd/dvdstation

If the drive failed the diagnostics, and you are still under the warranty,
you may want to contact Dell about a possible replacement.

I already had this idea but I tried first to search a solution on this forum. I think all the people who tried to help me for this!

I am having problems with my cd/rw. It is an Optiarc DVD/RW AD-5540A. I get a Code 37 error message. Where can I download a driver for this drive as I think the driver may be corrupted.?
