Problems with DW-D56A...again

Hello,

I've posted before about this but nothing's solved the problems.  I have an Inspiron 9100 Notebook Computer with a Sony DW-D56A DVD+-RW Drive.  It can read CD-ROM or DVD-ROM and it can write to CD-R and CD-RW, but it simply can't detect DVD-R, DVD+R or DVD+RW.

I contacted Dell about this and (after some time) they agreed to send me a new drive.  Incidentally, when I received it, I was surprised that it was identical to the one which had been replaced and I suspected what was coming next.  And indeed, I was right; I put a DVD+R into the drive, it made its typical noises, and said "please insert a disk into the drive".

Technical support doesn't seem to be able to help me, so can anyone on here? I'm sick of Dell, I really don't care about their "advice" anymore - they've messed me about too much for that.  Considering all the other problems I've had with this computer, do you think that they just don't like me???

Many thanks.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I've tried using Windows Explorer, Sonic RecordNow! and Nero 6 to burn DVDs - none work.
