Not sure if this is the correct forum to use, but I am having trouble with my Zip drive D. The response to commands in Windows Explorer to access the ZIP disk is extremely slow and for a minute causes the pc to stop working. I can hear the drive working and the green light is illuminated (not blinking). If I try and work in say Word at the same time, the text I’m typing doesn’t appear straightaway. After a few minutes the drive sound ends and the green light goes out.  After about 2/3 minutes the contents of the zip disk are shown in Explorer rh pane. A ‘Write delay failed’ and yellow triangle appears in the notification area of the taskbar.  When I click on a folder icon I get error messages ‘Please insert disk into drive D’ followed by ‘D:\*** is not accessible. The parameter is incorrect’ .

 

The disk I am working with at the moment has a mixture of folders with text and folders with photographs in PaintShop Pro format. In Explorer the contents are being viewed in filmstrip. Some photos are shown as thumbnails and some as PSP icons.  Clicking on an icon produces a message ‘Preview not available’. Efforts to open these pics in PaintShop cause the error message “The specified file cannot be identified as a supported type” and I can’t view them.  I have tried another zip disk just in case this one is faulty but I get the same problems.

 

Although I am certainly no expert, I wondered if either I had got a virus in my pc somewhere, or else there was insufficient memory.  Word is the only program open. I am running ZoneAlarm Security Suite and I have run the Virus check today on both the C drive and D drive but no virus was found. 

 

[1] Could it be that the drivers are faulty and if so how do I reinstall those? 

[2] Is there some test I could do to see if the memory management in my pc is functioning ok?

[3] I fitted a USB2 PCI card last week - could it be a problem with that?

Or perhaps there is some other reason?

 

Any help you can give would be much appreciated.
