tryagain,

Sevice Pack 2 will cause only a few, specific programs to stop working.  The programs you have mentioned are not affected by SP2.  More often, programs which may have become infected with spyware, malware or viruses will stop working when SP2 is installed.  SP2 locks out the ability of some spyware, malware and viruses to function.  If one or another of the programs on your system has become infected, SP2 can cause that application to stop working because it stops the spyware from working.

tryagain,

If this problem started "all of a sudden", you can try a system restore to the day before you had these problems.  It might let your system run better while you scan your system for unwanted software programs.

How would I go about doing that?

tryagain,

To do a system restore, click Start-> Run and type in MSConfig.  Click .  Click . Choose to Restore My Computer To An Earlier Time.  Click .  Choose a date on the calendar in the left pane which is in bold and is just before this problem started.  Click   and then again.  Let it finish and let it restart.

If things are better, download adaware and spybot.  Update them, update your anti virus and run all 3 one at a time.  Let them clean anything that they find.
