RAID 0 Configuration Error

I have a new XPS410 with two 500 Gig hard drives configured with RAID 0 to be a virtual 1 Terabyte hard drive.

With installation of some legacy programs I had a few instances where the computer hung and I had to "hard" reboot the computer.

Now when the computer goes through the power up (POST) and reports on the Physical hard drives it has a series of columns that report

Port/Drive   Model   Serial Number Size  Type/Status

Under type/status it has, in red, "Error Occurred (0)"

Does anyone know what this means, and how I can fix it? I can't tell that it affects the computer and I have run chkdsk which found no errors. When I hit Ctrl-I to enter the raid configuration utility I don't really have a clue what to do.

Power on, press F12 and load the Dell diagnostics. Run an extended test on the drives. It sounds like one has failed - if it has, report the error, and have Dell ship a warranty replacement. Also be sure you have your XP CD and a backup of your drivers, because if either drive has failed, you will have to replace it, format and reload everythign.

The disks check out fine.

I spent two hours online with Dell (very nice rep) and we uninstalled the Intel Matrix Storage Console and installed a newer one from Dell. No luck. It still reported the same "Error Occurred (0)" and with a right click it said no actions available. Both the old and newer version, when opening, gave a message that said I didn't have permission to alter the RAID drives.

Anyhow, I went to the Intel website and there is a newer version of the Intel Matrix Storage Console for Vista and viola, I uninstalled the new one from Dell and installed the newest version from Intel. The first thing I noticed different is that it used the Vista UAC to ask me if I wanted to allow the program to run. It didn't tell me that I didn't have permission AND when I right clicked on the icon of the drives with an X on them (telling me there was an error) there was an action option to "Make normal" the drives. Once I did this the icon reverted to a normal icon (no x) and reported it as normal. Problem solved.
