random CD ROM reading problems

I have a dimension 3000 with a CDROM and DVD+/-RW neither of which will now play certain CD-ROM that I have previously used.

The error messages I am getting are:

"the ordinal1334 could not be located in the dynamic link library IML32.dll"

after clicking OK it states:

"The application cannot start as it cannot create needed files. There may not be enough disk space"

Another CD Rom just states: "the application cannot run"

And another training CD rom that has been working happily for months will now not show the graphics except for a small DVD part.

It will however play some Cd Roms and DVD/ music CD's. It seems to be struggling with any data CD roms or items with mixed media.

I have not knowingly changed any settings but this is a family PC with many users.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

Confused:

These issues seem to be application specific. When you load an application disc, it must be loaded in the drive from which it was originally installed. This is probably your CD-ROM drive. As a first step, you may want to uninstall and reinstall each application in turn.

I know you didn't change the settings...but kids...well you know.

Did you have to install this disc to play it? Some training discs have a special player or software they have to install just to play that disc. The fact that CDs and DVDs still play (using what program??) means its probably the special training player software that is corrupted.

Just try to "reinstall" the nonworking disc again if there is that option in the DVD menu.
You may have to first remove the playing software before its reinstalled.
But we'll have to know more about this training program first and the other programs that don't work....

This is what Osprey is saying also.
