Hi Raajan, It seems there is a problem there, i think you have an 250GB drive so you shold be able to add other partitions. The only thing that i can think off is to use 3rd party software to do it. I have never tried any of this software, first one HERE is partition logic, the next on HERE is partition manager. Take it easy when using these software, and nake sure you dont delete or damage your D Restore partition.
i bought inspiron 1525 with 250GB just a week back. i want to repartition it. leaving the recovery drive as it is. what i want is to divide remaining 220 into 4 parts .
allocating 70GB for c drive and rest into three of 50GB. how it can be done???... will it effect warranty of harddrive???
Hi Raajan, If you repartition your hard drive, it will not effect your waranty of your hard drive, or your system.
Hi Raajan, Its, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management. Then Right Click on your hard drive and select Shrink, then follow the onscreen instructions.
Robin could you plz tell me what is this Recovery Drive??
can i use that 10GB in any case??
Hi Raasjan, Your recovery drive holds all the files needed to get the sysyem back to factory state in the event your systems crashes. To do that in Vista, keep tapping F8 when you see the dell splash screen on bootup. You should never delete that partition, or store any data in it.
when i right click, shrink dialog box appears, but in "enter the amount" field only 55365 appears and when i am tring to increase this amount then the shrink button bocomes disabled.. it shrinks only 55365...
and about 2.5 GB i dont know what is it...when i right click on it only two options active "delete volume" and "help"
i did try repartition and it is done but when i am tring to convert this unallocated size into new simple volume then it fails and an allert massage appears like "You cant create in new volume in this unallocated space because the disk already contains the maximum number of partitions "
and when i am shirinking c drive then it takes only 55365. but i want to divide 150GB
plz help me plz.....
total partiions and config.
118 MB (EISA Cnfiguration)
Recovery D NTFS healty primaty partition - 10.00GB
and when i am shirinking c drive then it takes only 55365. but i want to divide 150GB
Hi Raajan,
When you right click and get up the dialog box to shrink, do you see a line which says "Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB". That should be blued out, from there you enter the amount you require, in your case its 150,000MB. You have also got an 2.5GB there, what is it. As I said before you should not delete your D Recovery partition.
can i format complete harddrive... i have all the software CD.s
I think that will be best way..
if i format the complete HDD what would i loose ???
Hi Raajan, Yes you can format the hard drive, but you will lose everything, and have to reinstall using the CD's. However, that will leave you clear to partition your hard drive the way you like.
if i format my HDD, will it have any effect on warranty and can i install XP sp2 rather than vista...if so then will all the software like webcam and all work with XP

Hi Robin
I have an External USB 500GB hard dirve and suddenly now readable by any of my home and office PC. The drive was sadi to be corrupted.
Can you point the way to me how to recover the data. It was FAT32 formatted in one single partition.
