Yes you can do that. But there are 2 concerns we have here. First is that the space created by removing the drives needs to be filled using a filler. That you ll have to get from Dell. So it is better you leave one of the drives in. Second is the Dimensions of the new drive. See if that fits in correctly. Other than that, there are not many issues.

On a second thought, why not go for a USB DVD RW. It will be a handy portable device for you. The burning speed will be a little less, but it will be good enough!.

Hi Lizard King,

To add with Jassu`s:
Here is the Dell User Guide for Adding CD drives to your 2350 series.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2350/replace.htm#1129652

I too would suggest you keep one of the drives, since one is a CD-ROM and the other is CD/RW drive, keep the CD/RW. If Dell stayed true to form it will be in the second bay.
Although not set in stone, go to Device Manager, select the CD-ROM and click Uninstall, then shutdown. Remove the CD-ROM, set the jumper on the DVD/RW to Cable Select, not Master /Slave (Dell`s default jumper setting is Cable Select); place the new drive in the Top bay, "end" connection of the IDE cable. Turn the system on, you will need to install decoding software for playing DVD`s.

Additional note for jumpers just in case, this link may help:

Best Regards

God, grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do and the eyesight to tell the
difference.
