Replacing HD/Install XP
I have an XPS B733r PIII (purchased 1/2000) with a 20.4 GB Ultra ATA 7200rpm hard drive running Win98SE. The hard drive is about full. I want to totally remove the old drive, put in a much larger hard drive (about 120GB) and install WinXP since most newer programs won’t run on 98SE. I talked with Dell online service chat last night and was told that I could only put 80 GB HD’s in. That’s fine. Today I talked with telephone technical support and was told only 40GB max HD’s could be installed.
Question 1: Does anyone out there know what I can put in this unit?
Question 2: After installing the new drive can I reinstall the old drive as a slave, remove the 98SE OS and have XP recognize my data files? Last nights tech said no, today’s said yes! Copying all of those files, scattered who knows where isn't my preference - but if necessary..............

To install XP, disconnect the old drive, install the new one (jumper cable select), install XP, patch fully. Connect the old drive as slave and copy as you wish.

However, this is not a guarantee of compatibility; rather it is intended as
a guideline for hard drive capacities tested with the system. You
