Return Code 7 - Data Recovery

I have read many other topics where people have got a unmountable_boot_volume error and a return code 7 in the hard drive diagnostics, but has anyone managed to recover data of thier drive?

It might sound silly to ask but is there a gentle way i can run the hard drive for like an hour just to get my photos of it.

thankyou for any help.

Code 7 isn't a specific failure, it's a failure.  Recoverability of data varies all over the place.  As you should have seen when you read the other topics:

1) Get a new drive.

2) Put the old drive in an external usb holder and try to pull off what you need.

Don't plan on getting an hour, plan on every minute being the last and get off the most important stuff first.

And going forward, if you don't want to lose it, back it up, and back it up as often as you aren't willing to lose it.
