Safe Mode not Loading
Due to virus problems, I attempted to boot to Safe Mode (Dimension 2000, Windows XP Home). (Goal was to run virus and "AdAware" software in Safe Mode with hopes of eliminating recurring pop up windows.)
While there were no errors, Windows stopped booting after the user screen (selected Administrator) but before any icons appeared on screen.
Only options were to shut down or restart via ctl-alt-del (which automatically goes to Safe Mode and stops at the same point).
Two questions ....
1. How do I get Windows to boot in Normal Mode from this point?
2. Any ideas as to why Safe Mode will not load?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Task Manager comes up as if there is no problem.
However, there are no tasks running -- hence, nothing to close.
