Samsung HD160JJ/P with return code 7

Just got this code from the diagnostics on a E310 tonite - thank god I finished the taxes last night !! however, from reading others on this forum, I'm assuming it is terminal - I really need to recover the data on the drive - especially the taxes!! any idea how long the warranty on a Samsung drive is? also, how do i hook it up after i replace the drive to recover any info - not quite sure how to do that - any info would be a great help - i'm going to go looking for a drive now - thanks - the fish

Install the new SATA replacement hard drive, reload windows, all the drivers, applications and updates.

When the system is running to your satisfaction, temporarily install the 'old' drive as the secondary and see if you can transfer the data, you will need another SATA data cable, there should be a spare power connector inside the case.

Remember to check the system setup, to see if the second hard drive is set to 'Auto' [on], after installing it.

The directions for installing a second hard drive are here

Note. You can only transfer data, all applications and programs need to be reinstall from their CD's or from the publisher's site.

If the failed Samsung hard drive is the Dell OEM drive, then the warranty is the same lenght as the Dell warranty on the computer.

If you mean a transfer cable like this, yes, I have and it works fine to transfer the files, providing the damaged hard drive is still usable.

The hard drive should show in the laptop and be assigned a drive letter.
