Samsung SD-616E Readability Issues

This DVD-Rom drive won't read anything burned - CDs, DVD+R, DVD-R, nothing. I typically have to eject the CD/DVD and reinsert it several times to go get it to work. Even then it won't sometimes work - the light keeps flashing and the drive attempts to read the media. I've also been e-mailing the Dell Reps., all of which tell me the exact same methods except how to exchange the drive. I don't know whether the drive is just faulty or just cheaply made. Anyway, I've tried everything the Dell Reps. told me and was wondering how to exchange the drive (or even get a completely different brand). I've also been considering using a non-Dell firmware update on it from Samsung - would that void the warranty?

Thanks!

Select the Customer Care tab at the top of the page.
From there, select Contact Dell by Phone.  Explain the
problem and what has been done to this point and ask
for a replacement drive.

DO NOT flash the drive with non-Dell firmware.  That
would void the warranty on the drive.
