Screen changing colors

The screen on my laptop is periodically changing colors/swirling around, to the point of being completely unviewable at times, and I can't tell if it's related to the battery connection or not. Sometimes it seems better when it's plugged in.

The battery would have nothing to do with it. If the same fault shows up on an external monitor, you have a video card or video chip problem. If the external display is OK, try reseating the video cable. If that doesn't fix it, the LCD panel is faulty.
