SMART event

I just booted up and saw that a SMART event had occurred. The message is that "a hard drive in the system reports that it may fail".

What can I do?

There is not much you can do but replace it.  If it is under warranty, I would get it replaced by Dell or who ever you bought it.

It might last years or days.  You don't know.

cword

If you only have one hard drive, first make certain to backup any files you need to save to other media, eg CD/DVD's or an external hard drive.

Then try using Dell diagnostic's extended test, read, write, verify, on the hard drive, not the quickie express test.

How to use Dell's Diagnostic Utility

After the Dell Diagnostics loads and the Main Menu screen appears, click the button for the option you want.
