According to the Dell support person I spoke to earlier (UK support), the latest version (7.10) just automatically burns at the max possible speed and there is no option to change it! Which is rubbish, but what can you do!!?? (apart from get something decent like nero!)
Sonic RecordNow is a perfectly good program. To change the burn speed, simply click on the wrench/spanner icon and then on the "advanced" option of the audio tab and select the burn rate you want. You will find all the other options/preferences the same way.
The OEM Version 6 certainly has that option. After clicking on the "spanner", under the General tab there is an "Advanced" option and that is where one can choose amongst various burn speeds. Unfortunately, Version 7.1 (now 7.2) does not offer a free trial download, so I can't check it out. But under "features", it does say that it has an automatic "perfect burn" feature but that the burn speed can also be manually selected under the "advanced options".
Trust me, as I said before (and had it confirmed by dell) there is no way to change the burn speed in version 7.10. There is no advanced tab under general in the options. If you look at the F1 help section there is a note in there saying that the advanced tab is not present on all versions.

Arnie, I did try the "spanner" icon before i posted here. I checked again, there is NO option for changing the speed. Does anyone how to do this?
Or can we confirm that Sonic RecordNow, like most Dell Add-Ons, is just junk?

Sorry I wasn't able to help then. Sounds like another one of the Dell OEM "features missing" issues.
Cheers mate,

Only if it works!
You have to have XP recording turned on, and some burning software turns it off and you can't change it…
