SpinRite 6.0
I see that Gibson Research have released version 6.0 of SpinRite and that it now works with NTFS drives. To quote Steve Gibson's blurb:
By operating directly upon magnetic storage media at a level below any installed operating system, this major milestone release of SpinRite is able to operate on all Windows XP NTFS formats, DOS FAT, Linux, Novell, Macintosh (if temporarily moved into a PC) or anything else — if can even be used to repair and recover the hard drive from an ailing TiVo!
At $89.00, it might be worth investigating for anybody out there with seriously discombobulated data!

Thanks for the heads up on that. I've used Spinrite since version 1.0 - saved my bacon a time or two in the old days when floppies and hard drives were more prone to surface problems than I've seen lately. Haven't had that much use for it with drives and file systems that it couldn't handle - that's changed now!!!
FWIW - www.grc.com has lots of other useful stuff - especially as pertains to security of your PC, and the ills of M$'s lax view on security. Steve Gibson is talented and dedicated guy - support him.

I know Steve comes in for stick from some quarters but I've always found his site really useful - I regularly check installations with his ShieldsUp.
