Start DST Short Test...

--Start DST Short Test-- Test Results : Fail Error Code : 1000-0146 Msg: Unit 0: DST :Log contains previous error(s). That's the error that I'm receiving when I run the diagnostics on my Latitude D600. Just to clarify a few points before I go out and buy a new hard drive. This error means that the HARD DRIVE has failed, correct? Not anything else, like some sort of connector that sends the data to the hard drive? Also, my laptop still boots, but once on my desktop becomes EXTREMELY slow, to the point it's not usable, and nothing will open. Can this happen when a hard drive fails? I've completely reformatted my entire hard drive to make sure it wasn't some type of error or virus that could be fixed by the reformat. The reformat took hours and the installation of Windows XP Pro doesn't seem to work. It also gives this error message immediately before attempting to install Windows XP. lsass.exe - Application Error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application. All in all I'm just wanting to make sure there's no remedy and that I now much purchase a new hard drive and start from scratch and all that good stuff... (I'm a student, though school will be out soon so I'm not relying on my computer at the moment, but as soon as we get back it'll be bad. So if anyone has ANYTHING helpful please please tell me. I'm short on money and buying a new hard drive and installation fees and all are going to be horrible...) Thank you for your help

Yes, you need a new hard drive. You can easily buy any number of drives up through 120G for well under $100.
