If you are looking at System Setup (F2 at the self test screen following a restart) and don't see the card reported in the corresponding PCI-e slot, the computer is not properly polling the card. Perhaps a driver is required, and the only way to determine that is to go to the Adaptec site and find out. There does seem to be an application to help set up the card, but I didn't look carefully enough to determine whether the application is optional or required.
Thanks JackShack for a response. One thing to consider about the system not polling the card properly is that I had to remove the bracket in order to install the card. The PCIe x4 slot is set back enough from the edge of the motherboard that the Adaptec card cannot reach the edge of the motherboard and lock into the slots. So I wonder if not having the bracket to lock into the frame of the system means that the card is not fully inserted into the slot. When I press on the card it seems like there is no further resistance to overcome and I can see pins being displaced. Otherwise I have read about trying to insert the card into other PCI slots on the motherboard. But mechanically when I tried to place it, it just seemed to not quite fit the thickness of the circuit board of the controller card.
