Anyone have an idea how to get support from Dell cd-rom died they don't understnd me on the phone and chat says things are too slow to help and drop me off. any ideas?

You did not say what model laptop you are using but I would suggest that you run the Dell diagnostics on your optical drive and see if it generates an error. If it does then armed with this error code you approach Dell asking for a replacement. This assumes that you are still within warranty.

Its a 5100 and I did run the diagnostics and captured the error code. Problem is phone numbers I use get connect somewhere and they don't understand what an error code is tried the chat area and the person on the other side says their system is too slow and they can't help. Dell ships a product and you are on your own no support Thought perhaps I'm calling the wrong numbers. Thanks for your response though more than I got from dell.

Another avenue to explore is to post this on the customer care forums and also indicate what error code the Dell diagnostics have put out. Hopefully the mods patrolling those forums will give you a helping hand.
