using old hard drive with new computer
I took the hard drive out of my old inspiron (WXP)and put it in an external box that connects to my new inspiron (Vista) through the USB).
I would like to use the new computer to access the hard drive and run those programs. Is this possible?

Data, yes. Programs, no. Programs almost always require registry entries (and components installed in the Windows directory) that won't be there - you will need to reinstall them, even if you run them from the external drive.
Bottom line: Windows installs aren't portable.

So it is impossible to boot from the external drive and run the programs that are on that drive?
