Virtual Memory/ Paging File

I have a problem with a notice popping up that says my Virtual Memory is to low and I need to increase my paging file. OK When I do this i constantly get the same message as if I did not increase the paging file. Anyone have any suggestions?

hi, welcome.

i can see 2 possibilities :

Either you did not enlarge the paging file enough so it got used up straight away, or you did set the paging file correctly but forgot to press the 'set' button - so the new setting did not take.

The initial and maximum settings are 1.5 and 3 times your total RAM respectively, in virtual memory.
How much RAM do you have on your system?
How much is your PF usage under the performance tab in Windows task manager?

I had the very same problem and tried the standard solutions offered without any success whatsoever. At long last, I came across a hint and defragmented my (only) HD (running XP Pro), and ever since the notice on logon has disappeared. Actually, in my case, before initiating the defrag operation the system requested to run chkdsk /f. Wish you much success.
