Will not recognize CD-R

Roxio used to work great....now it will only burn on CD-RW discs and not on CD-R discs.  It will not recognize the latter....Is this a way Roxio uses to get one to upgrade?  Looks like a software problem rather than a problem with the CD writer.  Have a Dell Dimension 4600.

Suggestions ???

This should be easy to figure out. First, are you using DirectCD or Drag to disc? If so, disable it and try again. Can you burn to CD-Rs using the Windows CD burning wizard?

Roxio versions prior to 6 did not survive SP2 and need to be updated. So, it would seem the answer to your question is, Yes!

Ok, you indicated in a PM that your drive does not recognize a blank CD-R, but it does recognize a CD-RW.

If you would post the information I requested above, that would help progress this. Thanks.

Makes no difference if I drag and drop or use Direct.  Thinking that the Windows CD burner also reads a CD-RW but won't recognize the CD-R....I was thinking of picking up some different CD-R to see if it is a disk problem.
