WindowsMCE Can't boot up; error code 0F00:0244

Does this mean my hard drive has failed?

I am running the diagnostics and the error code says:

Error Code 0F00:0244
Msg: Block 14363236 Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected

When I boot up either normally, or safe mode, or last known good startup, I get the blue screen and it says unmountable_boot_device (or something like that).

So now I am running the Dell debug tools and I get the above error code.

They are sending me a new hard drive, but is there anyway to maybe recover the info on this drive (like hook this hard drive as a secondary when the new one come in)? Will I still be able to recover data that is saved on the old drive?

Please help!!!

Failed or is failing.
Try this...it worth a shot anyhow since you plan on replacing the drive

Boot system from your Win XP cd to get to Welcome to Setup screen, the press R for the Recovery console.

Do all of the following in sequence:

1. chkdsk  /r  (enter)
2. chkdsk  /p  (enter)
3. fixboot  c:  (enter)
Let each one finish.
Remove cd, type exit to restart and pray.

I run into the same problem.

Did you have to pay for the new hard disk, or it is under warrenty?

I bought my Dell notebook in April 2005, and it is over a year now.

Will very appreciate if you can reply and advice.

Thank you ahead.
