Can't install SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools

I am using Support Assist on a Dell XPS 15 9570 on Windows 10. I have the latest bios version and the latest windows update as of 7/18/2020. I try to update the SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools via the Dell SupportAssist tool but it keeps failing. Should I try uninstalling and re-installing it? If so, how do I do that on Windows 10?

I am having the same issue cannot update Support Assist. The only Antivirus I have is Windows Defender.

I have tried going to control panel and running a repair. I get this message.

Just an update I clicked the option to run reset. It boots to the Support Assist OS Recovery like it would if you select it from F12 menu.

But on my system I have not been able to get it to boot from F12 in months. But if I select the reset option it will.

There was an option to Update from there. I ran the update and still shows there is an update in Windows. Also I booted back to the OS Recovery using the reset option and it still shows there is an update. So it seems Dell needs to fix this issue uninstalling Support Assist fixes for a few days then the problem shows back up.

You can refer to the article here and try the steps. It should sort the issue out.

@DELL-Cares

That did not resolve the issues. That has been tried many times.

Please uninstall support assist from the computer > Create a new user account> install supportassist again> check if the update still does not go through> If not, please try the steps mentioned in the link shared earlier on the installation on the new user account.

I cannot suggested any particular uninstaller, but what has worked before is either revo or advanced uninstaller software. Please ensure to try this in a new user account after uninstalling.

It has been uninstalled and reinstalled many many many many times.

The reply I made about updating from Support Assist OS Recovery that did not work either. I have a feeling entries are staying in the registry after uninstall. Is there a uninstall tool? I tried Revo Uninstaller to remove registry entries and it does not help.

It finally installed. A restart is required for intel serial I/O Driver.

Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools 5.2.2.12981 (10/23/2020) was pulled from Dell's servers due to an undisclosed issue (Original 5.2.2.12981 build information link now shows a 404: .

It cannot be installed through any means (automatic nor manual) and will not be cleared as an urgent item until they release a later build of the software. The latest build available for download of Support Assist OS Recovery Tools is 5.2.0.12833, A00 (released 08/25/2020 and last updated 11/16/2020) (https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=m7g4t&oscode=wt64a).

Ignore the Urgent Update notice until they release a new build with a higher build number. You can't do anything else as the files are not available for download.

It would be nice of Dell to at least officially acknowledge that they caused the problem by pulling the update rather than making us think the problem is with our systems, an Anti-Virus conflict, a Microsoft Account login issue, or something we have misconfigured.

Sorry, I had the wrong link I copied over in my post above. The current latest version of Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools is actual 5.2.1.12926, A00 released 09/28/2020 and last updated on 11/16/2020 (https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=vn1dc&oscode=wt64a).

Hi TheyDontHaveAClue:

I believe you're right. It looks like Dell has pulled the Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tool v5.2.2.12981 update from their servers.

I recently re-installed both Dell Update and Dell SupportAssist (see my thread Dell Update v3.1.3 Stops at 10% Completion - Will Not Self-Update to v4.0.0 about how Dell Update v3.1.3 and DSA v3.7.0.148 would both fail with errors if I tried to check for available updates). The re-installed Dell Update v4.0.0 now detects one critical update for Dell SupportAssist OS Recovery Tool v5.2.2.12981, but when I click the icon to view the full documentation for this update (square with arrow, highlighted in red in image below) ...

Dell Update v4_0_0 SupportAssist OS Recovery Tool Found 19 Nov 2020.png

... it opens my browser which states "No Drivers found. It may be the link you followed to get here is not working or the content you are looking for has been removed and is no longer available."...

If I go ahead and click the INSTALL button in Dell Update v4.0.0 it quickly reports "0 of 1 successful- 1 update failed". At least the install fails immediately in Dell Update - in my re-installed DSA v3.7.0.148, the installation just runs continuously and can't be stopped if I click Cancel, forcing me to close the DSA interface manually to abort the installation.
