Support Assistant always causing errors

Despite uninstalling SA and reinstalling latest version in W11 Reliability History it is Always the first entry-Faulting application name: Dell.CoreServices.Client.exe, version: 1.5.20.3

Is the only solution to disable it? On my XPS laptop it is fine but on the Precision Tower it gives the above errors...

Thanks for any suggestions, joe

I just used supportassist to upgrade to 4.6.3.23467, and am also hitting critical errors on Dell.Core.Services.Client.exe version 1.5.30.3, faulting module name colonel bass.dll, version: 10.0.26100.3037, exception code XE 0434352. I also see that when the earlier version of supportassist did the upgrades, including flashing bios, there was no system restore point created before any of this was done. That is unexcusable. Why would you be creating changes to a system with a tool that doesn't allow for a restore point before it installs everything? That shouldn't even be an option!

@SteveF1290 according to the reliability monitor, these errors date back to 1/17/2025.

Please note that Dell employee DELL-Nat M's 15-Jan-2025 post in Rockface's Dell.CoreServices Crashing Frequently includes instructions for performing a clean reinstall of SupportAssist v4.6.3 that is supposed to solve this problem.

In theory, a clean reinstall should remove any traces of the previous SupportAssist v4.6.2, but if you continue to see Dell.CoreServices APPCRASHs after the clean reinstall be sure to post in Rockface's topic so DELL-Nat M' sees your feedback .

I've tried Rockface's method and made sure Dell System services were also removed and a restart...

Result... The same errors again- The only solution for me is to completely remove DSA and Core Services....

@lmacri Hi, You don't say why you're asking for all this info...?

I'll assume it's an offer of help and trust this assumption:

Dell Precision 3630/ Windows 11, V23H2 (OS 22631.4890)/ Dell Inc.2.31.0 (06/11/2024).

I have the same errors on my Dell XPS laptop

To joeread and others following this topic:

Just an FYI that Rango39 posted on 23-Mar-2025 in dantre3's SupportAssist Will Not Install that a clean reinstall of SupportAssist installed a new v4.8.1.27758 on their Latitude 5440 / Win 11 v24H2 laptop.

As previously mentioned, I uninstalled SupportAssist from my Inspiron 5584 after my service warranty expired (see my concerns <here> about bugs, excessive RAM and CPU usage, and over-aggressive "system optimization" scans) so I don't know if v4.8.1.27758 is now in wide release or if it would fix the Dell.CoreServices.Client.exe APPCRASHs you were experiencing with 4.6.3.32388.  The SupportAssist v4.x for Home PCs release notes available at https://www.dell.com/support/product-details/en-us/product/dell-supportassist-pcs-tablets/resources/manuals are outdated and currently list the old v4.6.1 (released Oct 2024) as the latest version.

I uninstalled SA completely and found it on SA download link posted on a thread, unfortunately I cannot find the thread but you can try on Dell SA site. Check that the installer you have downloaded is v 4.81.

Hi joeread:

Employee DELL-Nat M's 24-Dec-2024 clean reinstall instructions I mentioned <above> include a link that redirects you to the SupportAssist home page where you can click the blue "Download SupportAssist" button, but it's easier to download the latest installer (SupportAssistInstaller.exe) directly from https://downloads.dell.com/serviceability/catalog/SupportAssistInstaller.exe.
