DRAC5 Problem

Thanks for posting.  Usually the only thing necessary is to give the DRAC an IP address then use https:// and the IP of the DRAC.  If that doesn't work, try plugging a laptop or other system's NIC directly into the DRAC and try from there.  If that works, then you have a problem with your network that is keeping you from accessing the DRAC card.  If not, check the settings on the DRAC, make sure its NIC is in dedicated mode, enabled, and has a unique IP address that is in the correct subnet.

Thanks for the suggestions. The network addressing is 100% correct, and I can ping the card no problem. The DRAC on the 2900 is integrated and doesn't have a dedicated interface, as such the only choices I have are "shared" and "shared with failover". I feel I'm missing something basic about how these work :s

Ok, I think I'm being a bit of a dummy here. The DRAC5 is an option on the PE2900. I assume I had one as it gives me the option to press CTRL-E during bootup to configure it. However when I look inside the server I don't see any card of any kind. Am I right in saying that DRAC is not integrated and I need to purchase an add-in card?

Yep, you need to buy a DRAC 5.  It is easy to mistake the BMC for a DRAC when you're watching POST.  If you want to have a lights-out management tool, the DRAC is definitely the way to go.

Thanks for clarifying that Jeff, no wonder I couldn't get it working! I think I'll get some DRAC controllers ordered.
