Flaky iDRAC 7 card?
I have an R720 PowerEdge server with an iDRAC 7 (firmware version 2.61.60.60; enterprise license), which seems to be having some issues that I would love to get some help on for trouble-shooting. The card has only worked once straight-away right after I received the used server. At some point, it lost network connection and the port was completely dead (no LED at the port or on the switch it was plugged into). I brought the card back online by resetting iDRAC using the yellow-blinking button in the back. Looking at the network settings, I noticed it was configured to use the LOM1 network port instead of the dedicated port. However, when setting it to the dedicated port, even after resetting again, the card would not acquire an IP address even though the port LED (and the corresponding ones on the switch) were now on. I reverted back to using LOM1 and, after resetting again right after a reboot of the server, the card is now online again.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

If the iDRAC dedicated network interface is faulty then you will need to replace the system board to fix it. On some 12th generation systems I think the dedicated port was an optional kit, but on the R720 it appears to be soldered on the board.
I would try a different network cable and interface on your switch. You could also try manually setting the link speed to attempt to bypass issues with link negotiation. I think the iDRAC can do 10/100 in shared mode and 10/100/1000 in dedicated, but I would need to look in the manual to verify. The iDRAC may be having issues linking at 1000 with your switch. Poor quality or damaged network cables could cause issues with link speed negotiation as well. You can find documentation on the iDRAC support page. It looks like the latest manuals are under the 2.60.60.60 firmware page.
