Dell Venue Pro Unlock code

Hi,

I ordered a Dell Venue Pro with full price (without contract) from Dell site and got it delivered on 24th Dec.

As the mobile is purchased with full price, I wanted an unlock code for the mobile so that I can use it with AT&T.

I contacted T-Mobile for the unlock code and they told me that I would receive an email containing unlock code within 24 hours. I got an email after one day saying, T-Mobile doesn't have unlock codes for Dell Venue Pro and told me that unlock code can be given by Dell itself.

I contacted Dell support today and explained the situation. The customer care rep told me that they (Dell) too do not have unlock code for Dell venue pro.

This is weird. Dell should be having unlock codes for their own model. I don't know what to do now :(

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bhavik

Thank you, Peterson! you advice helped a lot, I did exactly as you wrote and I got my unlock code in exactly 24 hrs after my call to Dell.

Thanks everyone for information provided.

Although I followed Peterson's advice, I'm having considerable difficulty receiving the unlock code from dell.

Last Friday, 3/11/11 I called Dell and requested an unlock code for my dell venue pro.  I provided her all of the necessary information and the rep informed me that I would receive a call back from the supervisor with the unlock code within 24-48 hours.

On Monday, 3/14/11, after not hearing from Dell yet, I called them again.  I spoke with another rep, who informed me that the supervisor had left for the day and would call me back in a day or two.

On Thursday, 3/17/11, after still not hearing from Dell, I called them again.  I spoke with another rep, who again informed me the supervisor had left for the day and that I should expect a call back in a day or two.

On Friday 3/18/11, one week after being told I would receive an unlock code, I called Dell again!  I spoke with another rep, who informed me that I would have to wait a day or two for the unlock code that I requested the day before (Thursday 3/17).  I informed her that I had originally asked for the code over a week ago!  The rep seemed unconcerned and simply repeated that the supervisor would call me back when he has the code.

While I love the hardware of this phone, t-mobile is unusable at my home.  I will keep the phone if I can unlock it for att.  If this isn't resolved soon, I will be forced to return this phone soon, since it is almost 3 weeks since I purchased it outright from Dell.

I certainly hope my experience with the service department through Dell Mobility is not indicative of their typical care.  If this is their standard of practice, I may be better off returning this phone.

I am in the same boat I am leaving for Europe in a week trying to get an unlock code and it doesn't seem like it is happening. I am fine with my service from T-mobile it works for all the places I travel frequently so I won't leave T-mobile but it would be nice to have an unlocked phone when I go On vacation I go to Jamaice once or twice a year and it would be nice to just buy a sim and use the phone while I am there.

i still feel there is a relationship between the amount of time spent with Tmobile under the contract and ease of getting the unlock code..

I request everyone to add these little details about ur DVP n contract:

  • Batch of ur DVP: box mentions the manufact. date..
  • beginning of the contract date: better call Tmob customer service coz u might be in for a surprise once u get this data from them.
  • Ur stay with Tmob as a customer: have u been with t mobile before using DVP or this is first time.. or more surprisingly ur full price DVP is locked to T mob. :O

Hi Lovemydell,

I've gone to two third parties and they have not been able to unlock. Can you share more on who was your third party. Thanks.

T-Mobile has a quasi automated process for unlock codes, so when you makie a request they do not know if they actually even have the unlock code.

So you are told you will get the answer within 48 hours.

Also codes are given to T-Mobile subscribers if they have an account in good standing and have been active for over (I think its three months) as well as special circumstances like moving to Europe or using an intl SIM for travel.

Dell Venue Pro are not purchased by T-Mobile, the lock code is created and managed by Dell.

I am looking into the email from Dell, or the phone number and will post if here.

Cheers

It says you can unlock it in about 10 minutes. Does this include the  Dell Venue Pro AT&T 8GB model?

Also if unlocked does that mean it can be used with any carrier that uses a sim card?
