Microsoft's new scare tactics
Microsoft Says Windows 7 Has Outdated Security, Wants You to Move to Windows 10

So what does this say about MS's ability to find/fix security issues over the next 3 years? Sounds like scare tactics to me.
I'll worry about this in 2020 when support for Win 7 officially ends. My desktop can't run anything beyond Win 7 and I'm in no rush to buy a new PC. My 2 cents... :emotion-4:

Considering
(1) as you noted, MSFT will continue to support Win7 until (some time in) 2020, and
(2) the 50%+ of the world still using Win7 are doing so having turned-down the opportunity to upgrade to Win10 for FREE,
I don't see it likely that many people will PAY to upgrade now.
Indeed, there are a significant number of people --- myself included --- that still continue to use XP systems!

Netmarketshare reports that as of December, 2016 about 9% of desktops are still using Win XP (a bit more than the 8% still using Win 8/8.1). This is down from 24% in 2014.
My XP, used taking precautions, continues to work well.
