Trend Micro in safe mode?

Question

Hi,

I have Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 14. Is there a way to run a scan in safe mode? It won't let me. Sometimes I like to run my scans (AVG, Spybot) in safe mode.

Christine,   a word of caution about the instructions suggested in that link:   by turning system restore off, and then back on, emphasize that this purges your entire history of system restore points!   Meaning you will no longer be able to use these 'old' ones.   IF your system was indeed infected, and you intentionally want to purge your restore points (so as not to inadvertently reinstate the infection at a later date), that's in fact the best way to proceed.     but since it seems your goal here is simply to be able to run 'routine' scans in SAFE mode, on a presumably clean machine, it might be wisest, in this scenario, to keep your existing restore points... should you ever want/need to go back to one... by NOT turning system restore off and on.

I agree, ky331. Even if your system is infected, it is not advisable to turn off System Restore before cleaning. Malware that is in System Restore cannot get out. You cannot be re-infected by a file that is in system restore, unless you manually run System Restore to revert to when you were infected. In my opinion, it is better to clear the System Restore backups after your PC is clean.

"Tip: Some people recommend that System Restore be turned off and all Restore Points deleted before attempting spyware removal. DO NOT DO THIS. If something goes wrong (anything is possible) you will have no way to reverse your actions. You'll want to delete your old Restore Points, but the time to do that is later, not now."

When you are finished cleaning an infected system,and everything is running well again, purge the Restore Points by turning off SR and turning it back on again.
You must be logged in as Administrator to do this.

To flush the XP System Restore Points:
1.Go to Start>Run and type msconfig Press enter.
2. When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
3. On the next page, click the System Restore Settings Link on the left.
4. Check the box labeled Turn Off System Restore.
Reboot. Go back in and turn System Restore ON. A new Restore Point will be created.

To flush Windows Vista System Restore:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on
7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
8. Click OK
9. When you have finished, restart the computer.

Go back in and turn on Windows Vista System Restore by placing a checkmark in the box for any drive you wish to enable System Restore on
