IT has apparently tasked you with a job for which you lack the required Administrative Rights.

Yes, the administrative rights account has to be local to the machine you want to update.

If it were not the case, "just anyone" with a regular user account could log into his machine and update the BIOS.

Shudder.

 

If the systems are running Windows Pro, have the IT department check if they can give you limited rights using Group Policy settings on the machines you need to log in and update the BIOS.

 

Yes, you need admin access account even if you are doing the updates using the Command Line method.
