BIOS update help please
I have a Dell Laptop running Microsoft Windows 7 SP1. I got a message from my Dell Support Center saying I needed a BIOS update. When I downloaded it and tried to run it, it said I needed administrator privilege to run it. I'm the only user of this computer, and when I went to the control panel, it said I was the administrator. So, I'm not sure what I need to do in order to run the update. Is the update really necessary? If so, how do I convince the update that I'm the administrator when my computer apparently already thinks I am?
Thanks,
Joe

What laptop model do you have? I might assume you have an older laptop that you installed Windows 7 on after the fact?
Did it fail, telling you you needed administrator permission to run it, or did it ask for your administrator permission and you chose No?
Windows requires any program that makes changes to your computer to obtain permission. As an administrator on your PC, you have the right to give that permission, but it will still ask.
If it is failing to run for lack of permission, then right-click the BIOS update file, Properties, Compatibility tab, check Run This Program as an Administrator, OK, then run it again. It should ask you to approve running the program ... select Yes.

I have a Dell Studio 1555 that my mom bought last year and I inherited when she passed away last Mothers' Day. As far as I know, it came with Windows 7. When I tried to install the BIOS update, it said I didn't have the correct level of privilege and that an administrator was required. I'll try to do what you said. Thanks.

Try what I suggested, and make sure this is the file you are using:

Yea, the right click run as admin trick worked. Thanks so much.

Glad it did ... that is a trick for any program that doesn't know how to prompt Windows to "ask" you for permission.
