SM Bus Controller driver

Hi everyone,

Just completed a clean reinstall of Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1 64-bit operating system onto a Dell Studio 540 Desktop with an Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q8200.

Am having a problem with the SM Bus Controller driver. I receive a code 28, drivers not installed, manufacturer is Unknown, Location is PCI bus 0, device 31, function 3.

The hardware ID’s are:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3A30&SUBSYS_02AC1028&REV_00

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3A30&SUBSYS_02AC1028

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3A30&CC_0C0500

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3A30&CC__0C050

I have tried running automatic update, but Windows can’t locate driver. Have also tried a reinstall of the drivers from Dell. Am also having difficulty with network driver, so unable to get online with affected computer.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks for your help.

Download the following using another computer to a USB stick and install in order.

Standalone updates http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/obtaining-the-latest-service-packsbuilds-of-internet-explorer/windows-vista-service-pack-2/

Dell System Software http://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER88660M/10/Dell_System-Software_A06_R282537.exe

Chipset http://ftp.dell.com/chipset/R191900.exe

Matrix Storage Manager http://ftp.dell.com/SATA/R191912.EXE

Ethernet http://ftp.dell.com/network/R192159.EXE

Audio http://ftp.dell.com/audio/REALTEK_ALC888-HD-AUDIO_A02_R193149.EXE (unless you have a dedicated soundcard)

See notes regarding driver installation order in particular the video at the end make sure the driver extracts and installs and not only extracts.

You will need to select the correct driver from here depending on your display adapter:

Hi natakuc4,

Many thanks for being the light at the end of the tunnel for me ... you truly are a Rockstar! I greatly appreciate your prompt and excellent advice. Following your clear, concise instructions, I managed to perform a clean reinstall of the Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1 64-bit operating system on our Dell Studio 540 desktop without a glitch.

All best,
