Please, if you can, in English for a computer illiterate, tell me how to get WORD to work again.

It ceased functioning about five days ago. It won't open anything, freezes the screen & necessitates switching the computer off to get other functions going again. Other programs don't seem to be affected. Can copy WORD documents to discs & so on without opening them by transferring from icon to the desired location, just can't open or view any documents.

My wife spent 50 minutes on the cell phone waiting for a service technician last night, the one person she got to answer the phone said it was a low priority & he would refer her to somebody else, who never answered. Sent an email to the DELL help line last night, got back an incomprehensible reply this morning. DELL's "award-winning" support system has been pretty much useless for us since we got this computer about a year and a half ago.

Can anybody help?
