GT 240 will give you more than enough resolution for FHD (1080p, 1920x1080)

You really need to go ahead and figure-out an upgrade path.
That machine is over 10 years old and very limiting for DAW.
New machine can be running Windows-10 64bit, much faster cpu/memory, fast/silent SSDs, better audio latency, any video card you want, support for multiple high-res monitors (via Display-Port), USB-C, TB-3 (on some systems), etc.
Maybe setup parallel system (a Precision Desktop Workstation would be nice) and migrate-over kinda slowly?

XP COMPATIBILITY MODE and xp mode went away when windows 7 support went away.
The card that does full HD is LEGACY RADEON HD 5450
GT200 sereis and GT300 series and GT400 series are too old

I understand a new computer is in need. I bought this ultrawide monitor to run this studio program on. / No good to me if I can't run it at it's full resolution. Now the xps420 runs these expensive older programs just fine. it does what it needs to do very well. The programs will only run under xp compatibility mode / windows 7/ 32 bit. To purchase a new PC under with windows 10 at 64 bit. would cost hundreds if not a grand or more. Then I would have to purchase all new updated samplitude studio programs costing even more hundreds of dollars. And then spend a whole lot of time learning the update programs. the 2600xt is running this ultrawide at 1920x1080 now at 60 Hz. What I would really like to understand is --- WHAT GRAPHICS CARDS WILL NOT RUN ON THIS COMPUTER WITH THIS SETUP... / MAYBE I'm JUST EXPECTING TO MUCH. SPEND ABOUT 1500 FOR NEW PROGRAMS AND COMP. or a couple hundred on another GPU

Listen.
I like keeping machines in service (and out of the landfills) as much as anyone. I also like "making due" with machines if they are still fit for the task at hand. This one is no longer viable (not hardware or software/OS). That is why it is End-of-Life. I would not suggest as I did if not absolutely necessary.
And as far as LG 34UM61-P 34" UltraWide Full HD IPS Monitor ...
I agree you should be running it as it's native resolution. Thing is, 2560 x 1080 is a rare resolution but it must be barely supported but HDMI v1.4. Is suppose that is one of those (uncommon ones) like 21:9 aspect-ratio.
Still, kinda surprised is doesn't have a Display-Port on it (but at heart, it's only 1080p, so it squeaks-by).
