Dell XPS 15 9500 LCD Failure
Hi
My LCD screen has gone completely black. i dont know if it's a BIOS issue or mother board. But the laptop doesnt even recognise the laptop screen. i've got the laptop plugged into a second monitor that's the primary and only monitor.
i see the following indicators
1 Amber and 4 white (more regular )
2 Amber and 7 White ( intermittent )
amazingly it all went wrong after my warranty expired

Hi,
your message does not come as a surprise, they are many of us experiencing this issue, on different models...
I have the same problem and its been going on for a while... I never got it sorted by Dell, by reason of a mistake made in their internal systems. I have videos, and emails exchanged with Dell support back when the laptop was still under warranty, but because my personal information indicated that I Iive in the UK (I do not reside in the UK, the laptop was purchased on Amazon France with an AZERTY keyboard layout), I couldnt get the assistance I needed. After several back and forth with the support that led to nowhere, I gave up. Life caught up with me and the incident only occurred once in a while.
At the moment, the only fix I have for that black LCD panel is to force the laptop to shut down after holding the power button for several secs. Restart does not fix. The black screen occurs when the laptop goes into sleep, or after I close the laptop. When I wake up the laptop by either pressing the keyboard, or just simply by re-opening the laptop, the LCD panel is black.
Having it plugged to an external Dell Monitor allows me to write this message right now.
As stated before, the problem would only occur every now and then at the beginning. But as the warranty went by, it became more frequent. No, I have the front led blinking 2 times amber and 8 times white every single day. And like you, the warranty came to an end a month ago, when the problem started multiplying tenfold.

So your laptop does work using an external monitor? What do BIOS and/or SupportAssist diagnostics say?

i just get an LCD failure message.
Took it o a local technician and he suggested the motherboard needs replacing ( it's about £600l)
Infact I can't even get into the bios diagnostics now. It just freezes the laptop
So I'm just using an external monitor now. At least I know never to get Dell after this.

I have this same problem, but my laptop screen won't come on after it goes to sleep. When I hard reboot, it comes back on. The flash code (2/7) indicates LCD failure. And of course my warranty expired ELEVEN days ago. This laptop is 2 years old, but I haven't used it much in the last year, and now that I need it. I basically got one good year out of that $2300.
