Problems Installing BIOS Update 1.4.0
I own an XPS 13 7390 Laptop. I received a notification to run Dell SupportAssist and as a result installed two out of three driver updates. Unfortunately, with this BIOS update:
- When run through SupportAssist, the download is successful but SupportAssist lingers on "Installing..." for indefinite periods of time, with no indication of progress.
- When I download the driver update manually through this website, I receive a prompt to restart my computer only to check SupportAssist to verify afterwards, and apparently the installation did not occur.
To be clear, across several attempts I received no error messages stating the installation failed, only a note from SupportAssist saying my BIOS requires an urgent update. I think SupportAssist may be the issue, but the fact the other drivers were installed just fine makes me uncertain.
I've attempted creating a separate BIOS folder on my desktop, and even turning off visualization technologies - both based on previous searches - to no avail.
Your guidance is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This Dell support page may help. Read the section on installing the BIOS from a USB flash drive. And just some advice. Unless you are having a problem with your system that the BIOS update specifically addresses, then you do not have to update the BIOS. Support Assist recommendations are just that only a recommendation, you do not have to update the BIOS. Make sure your battery is fully charged and keep the adapter plugged in. BIOS updates can be done without problems but just be cautious as the forums are full of posts where problems have occurred when the BIOS update goes wrong. I generally advise that if your system is running well then leave it alone.

I have very similar issue with my Dell XPS 13, the BIOS will not update. Have tried Support Assist, direct download, have disabled virtualization, tried downgrading, using older BIOS upgrades, etc, etc. Dell says the new BIOS versions are URGENT, thus a suggestion not to update the BIOS is avoidance and not a solution. I am wondering if Dell sells some notebook PCs to the government/military, etc with the BIOS locked or upgrades disabled? Am wondering if I have purchased one of those PC's (used).

Trying to get my optiplex from 1.2.1 to 1.4.4. Exact same issue. Direct download, dell command update, support assist. All looks fine, reboot and still at 1.2.1. Fun?
