Warped Screen Dell XPS 9300

I just got a Dell XPS 13, and the graphics are messed up and warped. It seems like faulty hardware to me. I tried calling Dell support and they told me I must have dropped it. I have not dropped it or spilled anything on it.

Has anyone encountered this before? How did you fix it?IMG_20200628_122744.jpgIMG_20200628_122805.jpgIMG_20200628_123429.jpgIMG_20200628_123734.jpg

While waiting, run a screen diagnostic - hold D through powerup.  A series of self-test screens will appear.  If they appear the same, the screen needs to be replaced.

If they do not -- i.e., you see a good set of diagnostic screens - the mainboard needs to be replaced.

That's interesting, I wonder what drivers they were. There's no updates available for my computer. I've also tried other operating systems (Ubuntu and Fedora) and they also had the same problem.

I also experienced the same when using zoom. The whole screen would turn black, then come back, look all messed up - repeat.

Hello,

I have a similar problem with my screen as well. It's not a warped screen like yours, but mine was a lot worse as in it was the entire screen that went haywire. This occurred when I was on a videocall for zoom and had a few chrome tabs open. I called Dell support and they had to update my drivers and reinstall a few things by taking remote control of my laptop virtually. I suggest calling them again and see if someone else could help you manually.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the diagnostic test and didn't see anything wrong with it. I also plugged in an external monitor and the problem occurred on that screen, too.

Yeah, it's definitely a bummer. I have not had the other issues you mentioned. Aside from returning it, I think dell sells every laptop with a 90 day hardware warranty, so you may be able to have it fixed as long as it's not user damage, like you didn't drop it or something.

Hello @complexsandwich ,

It's unfortunate to see these problems, especially considering this a NEW laptop with only 1 week of usage. I'm considering on returning it and purchasing a new laptop. I had other issues with the speakers and bluetooth connection. I explain more about it in a previous post I made: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/Dell-XPS-13-9300-First-Week-of-Use-Audio-Resolved-Now-SCREEN/m-p/7635807

Let me know if you've had these issues too.
