Going through past posts I've gotten some conflicting info on this. Are EMC Powerpath licenses are licensed per processor or host (both)? For example, if I’m buying 3 servers which have 2 processors each – do I need 6 licenses or 9? I believe at one point we were able to license just by host, but not sure if that still applies.

My new charger is supposed to be 45W, 20V 2.25A. When I connect it with the pc on, windows says 'connected but not charging, 95%' but Dell power management says 'Connected, fully charged'. I disconnect it and Dell power management jumps to the 95% my battery actually has. If I check battery and adapter in the BIOS or diagnosis, both say ok, and the charger is recognised as a 45W, but the battery just says 95%, idle. If I reboot the computer or connect the charger when it's turned off, first windows says 100% too, as well as Dell power. Only when I disconnect it and reconnect windows start to recognise the 95%. Not a single time the battery led has turned on, not with the computer on and neither when powering up, nor being off, nor when I just connect the charger. I'm now sure what's going on, or why the battery is being misread so much. I hope someone can help me to make my computer charge!

Liesz, I am not sure what you mean by using the AC Adapter through the USB Type- C port when it should be plugged into the left side power adapter port. What happened to the originally shipped AC adapter? Why isn't the AC adapter plugged into the left side power adapter port?

The XPS 13 9350 (and many other newer Dell systems) support charging over USB-C via the USB Power Delivery industry standard, which is why it can charge while connected to docks like the WD15 and TB16. There are a variety of third-party chargers on the market that can provide the XPS 13's required 45W and comply with the USB Power Delivery standard, which would allow them to be used with the XPS 13. Even Dell makes a 45W USB-C charger. I have a Nekteck 65W USB-C charger that I use just fine with my XPS 13 9350, Latitude 7480, and a few other non-Dell devices.

The XPS 13 by default uses an 'Adaptive' battery charging mode. This is configurable in the BIOS. Basically, in adaptive mode the system watches how often you're connected to a power source and will adapt its charging strategy accordingly. For example, if you frequently use your system on battery power, it will make sure it's always topped up whenever possible. However, if it sees you spend a lot of time connected to an AC adapter, it might limit its maximum charge level and/or allow the battery to self-discharge (i.e. use the AC adapter only to run the system, not keep the battery topped up) in order to increase the long-term lifespan of the battery, since it's not good for batteries to be kept at 100% charge all the time. That's why Tesla vehicles default to only charging themselves to 80% unless you specifically select 'Max Range Mode', for example, and even that selection only applies to a single charge cycle, then it resets back to 80%. That might account for why your system essentially reports 'fully charged at 95%, and not charging any further'. I'm not sure why the reported charge level would drop from 100% to 95% simply by disconnecting the AC adapter.

@jphughan I understand that XPS 13 9350 charges just fine with 45w (20V/2.25a). Do you have any idea if it charges at 30W (20V/1.5a)? :BigSmile:

I connected them up and checked the Battery Information screen in the BIOS Setup. It correctly identified the power source as 30W and said the battery was charging. When I rebooted, I saw a warning that I had connected an undersized power source and therefore that the battery would charge more slowly and that the system might continue drawing from its internal battery under peak load. I've also found that at least some systems will throttle their performance when connected to undersized power supplies because they assume you'd rather that they continue working at lower speed indefinitely rather than drawing on the internal battery to maintain peak performance and ultimately dying on you. So yes, a 30W power source seems to work for the most part, and if you'd only want to use that in order to charge the system while you're not using it, then it should work perfectly fine as long as you're ok with a slower charging speed. That said, 60W USB-C adapters are pretty inexpensive, in many cases physically small, and will support far more gadgets than 30W sources, so you might want to consider getting one anyway. Here is one that I just bought, and here is another one that can provide up to 60W out of either port, or if you have something connected to both ports simultaneously, it will provide up to 30W from each port simultaneously. Unfortunately that second adapter can't do splits like 45W + 15W, but I still find it useful. In fact, that second adapter is what I used to test this 30W scenario for you. :)

If you're optimizing for travel, one thing you might want to consider is getting a 'one charger to rule them all' instead of a bunch of small chargers. I just got this charger recently for my travel, which is perfect for the devices I have. I can charge my laptop from the 60W USB-C port, fast charge my iPhone or portable battery pack the 18W USB-C port, and then I still have two other USB-A ports for things like my smartwatch, wireless headphones, etc. I don't know if it's available in Singapore though.But if you want things as portable as possible, the two best options in the Anker GaN realm are the PowerPort 1 PD here and the PowerPort III mini here. The first one is smaller, but the second one has a power plug that can flip upward, so it might be easier to pack even if it's a bit larger.

@jphughan That is true. I've been looking into chargers with detachable cable cords like the Satechi you mentioned. Got to love that product for having 2 USB-C ports and would have gotten it if not for the prohibitive price(not inclusive of a USD$20 for shipping cost!).Anker GaN series definitely fits my criteria. I will snag one if there is a sale and till then, I'll keep on using my Aukey PA-Y10 which is very capable for its size.UK plug type never makes it that portable. Look at those pointy legs! If Anker makes a foldable pin for UK plug type, I'll be totally sold. Apple's implementation of it is absolutely sleek.Fit's my needs. Too bad it is 18w only.

Welcome to the Dell Community @mnm2211 Yes the i7-4712MQ will work just fine. It has the same TDP as the i5-4300M Upgrading to the i7-4910MQ should be no problem also. It may run hotter but will produce a significant increase in performance. Increase the wattage of your AC adapter to the next level. This forum post should help. Remember that just because they have the same socket does not guarantee compatibility. The i7 you mention draws more wattage and runs hotter.

@U2CAMEB4ME Thank you for the response. I thought of i7-4910MQ in the first place. Since it has higher TDP(47watt) than i5-4300M (37watt), I have done more study and found i7-4712MQ which has exactly the same TDP as i5-4300MQ (37watt). So I am thinking to go for i7-4712MQ finally to avoid that heating related issue.. In this case, should I be concerned about any other issues?

I replaced a dual core I5 4300 M CPU in my E6440 with a quad core I7 4702 MQ. They both have the same 37W TDP. The machine runs great and I have not had any problems with overheating. Please sure to apply fresh thermal paste to the top of the new CPU before reinstalling the heat sink. A quad core I7 4712 MQ should also work as it also has a 37W TDP. BTW, I also installed a mSATA Samsung PM871 SSD 256 GB in the 3rd mini card slot (mini PCI-E slot above the WWAN) and the combination of the quad core CPU and the SSD as the boot drive results in a much faster laptop!

Hi, I'm up to replace the current i5-4310M on my latitude e6440 with an i7-4712MQ or i7-4702MQ. Since all these CPUs have the same TDP, is it necessary to replace my current heatsink, and my adapter (currently in use 90w)? Hello, I am trying to upgrade a i7-4610M CPU on my Dell E6440 (A23 BIOS, discrete GPU) to i7-4910MQ, but once I put i7-4910MQ CPU - the system won't boot. The CPU fan does not start (its surely working with the old CPU). Any ideas? Do I need to downgrade the BIOS or do something else? Thank you.

Welcome to the Dell Community @Dell2015World Downgrade would not help. What you would need is a BIOS upgrade. The i7-4610M is 37W TDP and the i7-4910MQ is 47W TDP. It should work but run hot??? Do you have the descrete GPU??? What is the wattage of your AC adapter??? Best regards, U2

Hi U2, Thank you for your prompt response. My AC adapter is DA130PE1-00 (130W) and the laptop has discrete a GPU (AMD 8600M). I will upgrade the BIOS to A24, try again and share the results, but I doubt the BIOS is the issue here. Once I hit the power on button the system just do not start (nothing on the screen or any POST sounds), just the power om light lit for 3-4 seconds and than go off. So it might be related to overheat, but it seem strange to be like this for a few seconds (and no extensive CPU overload). Best regards,

I'm sure PPath might be only part of the solution, but the thing I'm facing is that a particular HPUX host sometimes looses 1 path which won't come back automatically. A reboot always helps. I've advised to make sure that the FCID as well as the domain id are set to fixed. A colleague of mine asks whether he can use the following procedure to remove all LUN's from PowerPath and get them all back again: Remove all devices.[root@srv1] / # powermt remove dev=all Get the devices back After a rescan of the disks with ioscan and the creation of the device files with insf run the following command to make sure the disks return to PowerPath [root@srv1] / # powermt config PPath is version 5.1.0.

I'll step aside from answering if your colleague's approach is sound, and leave that to others. HPUX is one of the most reliable UNIX systems I know of. If it is losing a path, than either something is going wrong with the hardware on the server or somewhere else within the connectivity structure (and that can include a person). If it's on the server a simple replacement of the HBA will help address the problem on the HPUX box. What I am saying is there is a problem..........fix the problem! Stop being re-active and try to be pro-active (albeit after the fact...) You will never fix a problem by attempting to treat a sympton, you treat the problem. Check the HBA, check the cable, check the ports, check if someone is trying to configure something they have no clue to what they are doing. Go and talk to folks, look at logs, cause this error got reported somewhere. I know HPUX, there would have been a message. If it's not on HPUX, then check the network involved. Just a thought, Rita

HPUX does not create special PowerPath device files like AIX/Linux does, so i am not even sure what powermt remove will do, maybe just stop load balancing. I remember we used to set pv timeout to 180 seconds. (pvchange -t 180) but even if you lost a path temporarily ..ioscan should have brought it back. Something is fishy.

This solution was dug up by a colleague of mine and I'm not even sure if it's a good idea to touch PPath in the first place, you're right about that. It's an a) HP Blade server or b) bladecenter issue OR an issue with the c) SAN OR an issue with a certain d) storage port. a) blade server: could it be a firmware issue ? Or a PPath version ? b) blade center: could it be a firmware issue ? An MDS9124e issue ? Other servers in the same blade center using the same switches are working just fine. c) SAN: other servers keep on functioning using all available paths and since zones cannot disappear and come back just like that, especially since after a reboot everything is fine again. d) Storage: since other servers can still use all ports, it's not a connectivity issue. Could it be a problem with the Navisphere Agent ? Is network connectivity a must in this ? Having said all this, I think the Navi Agent could be an important thing to look at or the PowerPath version.

nope. Not a single one ! On every port from 'server - 9124e - 9222i - 9134 - Clariion'. I asked for an EMCGRAB. I think we should wait for the outcome of that. HEAT will hopefully tell us more infor. I'll let you know what we will find.

Hello, Just wondering why a erboot works, but an ioscan doesnt, a reboot would force a re-login to the switch/SAN, which an ioscan would not. If the path goes again, would it be worth trying to block/unblock the port on the switch (forcing a re-login at SAN/switch level) then try an ioscan? If that works, I'd look at the SAN or GBIC on switch as a possible issue. Hope this helps, Nollaig

These are HP Blade servers, connected to two 9124e switches, so internal ports. Other servers don't have this issue at all. I'm still waiting for the EMCGRAB outputs. I will keep this posts up2date when I know more.

monitor the `fcmsutil /dev/xxx stat` and compare with a working one. You might see the count values high on the problem one

If powerpath is not bringing a path back to Alive state when physical path is alive, i think you should call support and get it checked.the powermt remove dev=all, i dont think you can remove devices from the PP if the PP sees an active paths to the devices.. I have not tried on the HPUX if it allows it.. let me leave it to PP and HPUX experts to answer Regards,Saurabh

J'ai pu télécharger et graver sur DVD bootable 'Dell’s OpenManage Systems Management Tools & Documentation' (OM_6.5.0_SMTD_A01.iso) qui marche bien. Lorsque pendant l'installation, je choisi Esxi ou Esx version 4 ou 4 U1,.. il me demande d’insérer par la suite le CD/DVD de ESXI. Alors dès que j'insère le DVD, il le rejette sous prétexte que ce n'est pas la bonne version. J'en ai téléchargé autant de version dans le site Vmware, mais aucune n'est acceptée. D'autre part, comment installer un système quelconque dans le serveur sans utiliser 'Dell’s OpenManage Systems Management Tools & Documentation'. Merci de me venir en aide.

Bonjour EricDeumo, Pour installer Esxi sur votre serveur, le plus simple me semble de booter directement sur le DVD ou la clé USB qui contient ce système. (sans passer par le SMTD) (en appuyant sur la touche F11 lorsque le logo Dell apparaît). Pensez à bien vérifier que tous les composants de votre serveurs sont compatible avec Esxi. I've recently done a fresh install of Windows 11 22H2 and noticed that in Device Manager there's an exclamation mark on Waves Audio Effects Component (The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)). Realtek Audio device driver (version 6.0.1.8642) has been installed by Windows 11 itself (probably through Windows Update), so I didn't have to manually install any specific driver. Anyway, I wouldn't be able to manually install an specific driver because Dell support page does NOT show any Windows 11 audio driver for this laptop (https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/product/g-series-15-7588-laptop/drivers). However, choosing Windows 10 in the support page presents a Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, version 6.0.1.8642, A03. As you can see, it's the same one that Windows automatically installed for me in Windows 11. I've tried installing the Waves MaxxAudio Pro Application available in the support page for Windows 11, but it just links me to a Microsoft Store app. Installing this app doesn't fix the exclamation mark in Device Manager for Waves Audio Effects Component. I've also tried clicking Update Driver and then clicking 'Search for updated drivers on Windows Update', but there's no driver available. Any suggestion? Is it safe to install Realtek High Definition Audio Driver for Windows 10 in Windows 11? Maybe it includes a driver for Waves Component, but I'm not sure why Dell doesn't show it when I filter downloads for Windows 11.

Did anyone find a fix for this issue? I have the same issue.

@san-pei Realtek driver MCC2D states it is only supported on Latitude laptops = Are you stating that you have installed it successfully on Inspiron G series laptops?

I own a Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition but I have issues using a USB 3.0 ASIX AX88179 based Gigabit Ethernet adapter. As you can see in this link where I have posted more information about the issue, the adapter is recognized and packets seems to go through, but it cannot acquire an IP address, rendering itself unusable. I have tried to put a static IP address but still no luck. It looks like it is a Dell XPS 13 issue because I have verified that this adapter is working fine on different hardware. Also in the following link (ubuntuforums) that I have asked for more help already, there is one more guy reporting issues with XPS 13 and this USB ethernet card. However, his issues were fixed after upgrading to the latest mainline kernel which is not the case for me :( http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2089845&page=3 Do you have any idea on how can I debug this further or can anyone else please report their experience on this combination?

I have a dongle based on the AX88179 (branded by Plugable) running on a mid-2012 (project sputnik) XPS 13 with the 12.04 sputnik iso installed (kernel 3.2.0-51). Using the AX88179 v1.4.0 drivers for Linux from the Asix website, things seem to work alright. A very quick update from me that I hope may help - I've not compiled the driver for Linux but I have noticed some odd behaviour with my AX88179 USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet dongle (which I purchased to negate the iwlwifi wifi issues prior to replacing it with an Atheros based card) insofar as it works in both USB 3.0 ports, but for some reason when plugged into the left hand port it generates a lot of errors which causes occasional stalling of packet transmission. The right hand port has no such issues. The above is true on OS X (which I have dual booting on the XPS 13 Dev Ed) and given OS X is FreeBSD at it's core with various Appleisms on top, it's not too much of a stretch that the Linux codebase is sufficiently similar to manifest similar issues under Linux. Compare performance between both USB ports and let us know the results please. The left hand port is powered for charging devices while the system is powered down, whether or not thi is a factor I have not had enough chance to investigate properly. On the subject, however, I do have an external USB 3.0 hard drive which fails to mount or even be detected on the left hand USB port, but works a charm in the the right hand one. Other USB 2.0 drives seem to be fine.

Hi longshiptech, The USB behavior you had noticed is indeed a known issue: en.community.dell.com/.../19491324.aspx I'm starting to think there are more defective machines around, just that it wasnt noticed by the user. (the left USB seems to fail only when power-hungry devices are plugged into it). Anyway, does the gigabit ethernet adapter works perfectly on the right USB port now?

I have tried both port, but it doesn't get any better. The only solution partly works for me (it is not very stable) is to force the link speed to 100Mbps. Check this ubuntuforums thread: ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php

My machine is l321x, so only the right side USB is 3.0, however the adapter works perfectly in GigE mode on it. Edit: if it helps, the USB 3.0 controller on my older machine appears to be Fresco Logic FL1009.
