Latitude E5550 - Replacement 62Wh Battery Does Not Work

I want to replace an old battery in my Dell Latitude E5550, so I purchased an original Dell 62Wh replacement battery (model number is 6MT4T). However, when I install the new battery it is not charging in the laptop and the amber battery LED is blinking. If I try to start the laptop, an error message is displayed that the primary battery was not detected. If I install my old battery (which is 51Wh that came with laptop), everything works fine. So there are no issues with the connectors / hardware / etc. It is clearly the new battery... I have the latest BIOS installed. Could this problem with charging be related that this type of battery is only supported in newer generation of E5550 (62WH new vs 51Wh old)? Is there anything that can be done to make the new battery work?
