Media Center Rollup 2 Aborts Install - Why?

I have Windows XP Media Center 2005 installed. Media Center shows version 5.1.2700.2230. System Properties shows I am running Windows XP MCE version 2002 SP2.

I need to install the Rollup 2 for MCE but it aborts the install saying that MCE 2005 is required. Well, that's what I have but apparently something on my system is reporting otherwise. The Windows Update site doesn't offer the Rollup 2 at all so I went to the Microsoft Downloads section and manually downloaded it. That tells me that when Windows Update scans my system it is not reporting the correct version then either.

According to Microsoft here... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/837707, this is a known problem. Microsoft says "Because Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 or Windows Media Center Edition 2005 was included with your hardware device or system, the hardware manufacturer provides technical support and assistance for this software. Your manufacturer may have customized the installation with unique components such as specific device drivers and optional settings to maximize the performance of that manufacturer's hardware.

If you require technical help with Windows XP Media Center Edition, contact your manufacturer directly because the manufacturer is best qualified to support the software that the manufacturer has installed on the hardware."

Looks like they are passing the buck. I'm not even sure if this is what's causing the problem. Just seems likely. I purchased a computer from Dell with MCE 2005. I cannot install the updates so I need support. Someone should know how to get around this.

Without the MCE Rollup 2 I cannot install Windows Media Player 11. Without Media Player 11 I cannot setup a Media Server for my PS3. I also cannot get the dual tuner function to work properly in Media Center without that Rollup 2 installed.
