No internet connection error

When I run the windows companion I get an error like "Not connected to Internet". I connect to the internet using a proxy server. Could that be the matter?
When I try to run the diagnostics I get this error.
"VNC is not listening on port 5900"
I tried changing the VNC port but no change.
